Catheter systems designed to provide peripheral vascular access "when PIV is insufficient and PICC is excessive"

Wayne, Pennsylvania--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Teleflex Incorporated (NYSE:TFX), a global supplier of critical care and surgical medical equipment, today announced that its ARROW Endurance™ extended-stay peripheral catheter system has been awarded The US market permits the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The new device is a peripheral catheter system in which the catheter is cleared by the FDA for up to 29 days. Extending the indwelling catheter allows the hospital to avoid the use of multiple PIVs to achieve a longer indwelling time, while also avoiding the additional clinical risks and costs associated with peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC). The intravascular catheter is intended for short-term use (up to 29 days) to allow for infusion therapy, pressure monitoring, high pressure injection (up to 325 psi), and blood draw.

“ARROW Endurance™ Extended Dwell Peripheral Catheter System is another product of Teleflex, which can help vascular access professionals provide the right tubing for the right patient at the right time,” said Jay White, President of Teleflex Vascular Access. "This is the ideal solution when patients need intravenous treatment for more than a few days allowed by traditional PIV but without PICC."

The extended stay system is designed to maximize performance and ease of use, and is designed to improve clinician safety and reduce patient needle sticks. The device includes a passive needle safety device to reduce the risk of accidental needle stick injuries and blood contact. The closed system design makes it unlikely that clinicians will accidentally come into contact with blood-borne pathogens.

Teleflex expects to launch ARROW Endurance™ Extended Dwell Peripheral Catheter System in the United States later this year.
