A teenager suffered a terrible "birth-like" injury after the bicycle handlebar hit her vagina.

The 18-year-old doctor did not give his name, and there was shocking blood and fluid-filled swelling around his vulva.

Shocking photos published in the British Medical Journal showed that the lips of the vulva swelled and turned black due to injury.

A doctor from Rotunda Hospital in Dublin explained how the incident happened.

They said the woman showed up in the hospital because of "extreme pain" and inability to urinate.

Symptoms began as "after a collision on a cart, the handlebar of the bicycle directly collided with her external genitalia".

But after the accident, the woman had waited three days before seeking medical help.

During the examination, the doctor found a large swollen hematoma.

A hematoma is a type of swollen blood, ranging from tiny blood bubbles to large, swollen masses.

When it occurs around the vagina, it is usually due to injury or childbirth-pushing the baby out or out of the forceps.

Dr. Amy Worrall and colleagues wrote: “Vulvar injuries of this nature are most common in women after childbirth, especially after vaginal surgery.”

"Other causes include trauma, forced intercourse, sexual abuse, genital vascular injections and saddle injuries, in this case related to certain physical activities (cycling, horse riding, etc.)."

Doctors in Dublin said the swollen tissue was "severely edema"—meaning it was full of pus-like fluid—and it was bleeding.

The poor young woman was given morphine and a catheter to empty her bladder. Under anesthesia, the doctor can drain the hematoma.

Three months later, the patient fully recovered.
